The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital is a Non-Profit Company and the first of its kind in South Africa – a registered wildlife veterinary hospital and a rehabilitation centre that is fully permitted by the Department of Environmental Affairs. We exclusively treat, rehabilitate, release and protect small to medium indigenous wildlife, free of charge.

Wild species face ever growing threats and an ever increasing number of wild animals are finding themselves in situations requiring emergency intervention in some way. These creatures are brought into our facility from all around South Africa. The species we treat range from the most common to the highly endangered and include all mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and even arachnids.

The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital is comprised of a passionate team of animal specialists lead by Dr Karin Lourens who has been a practicing veterinarian for 22 years with a specific interest in wildlife veterinary medicine and wildlife rehabilitation of South African species.
We aim to continually improve the quality of the treatment, survival rates and rehabilitation success of small to medium-sized indigenous South African wildlife. We support conservation projects and continually strive to lead and inspire conservation education and action

Organizations that have been validated by CAF International have completed an extensive application and due diligence process with one of CAF International’s Global Offices. The CAF International Validated Organization Badge is awarded to organizations that are structured and operated as nonprofit entities. This is confirmed by a validation process that goes far beyond a simple reliance on a foreign government database.

The CAF International validation process includes a review of an organization’s key operational elements such as their governance structure, registration status, annual financial statements, online and media presence, and their board members and senior staff. This validation process ensures that all funds sent to the organization will be used charitably, and it allows CAF International and their donors to mitigate the risk of fraud, money laundering, and other criminal activities.
